Disability/Accessibilty Services
By law, all students with disabilities are guaranteed a learning environment that provides reasonable accommodation of their disability.
The rights of students with disabilities are protected under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, which are civil rights provisions aimed at ending discrimination against persons with disabilities.
The Disability/Accessibility Services office is often a part of the Student Services office. The office provides students with disabilities an opportunity to find special services and accommodations. Accomodations are based on the student's functional limitations in the academic environment and the types of college or university classes and activities in which the student will be participating. A major goal of this office is to help students become capable of managing their own disability circumstances. Students have the right not to use a service for which they are eligible or not to request an accommodation which has been determined to be appropriate.
Services available to students may include priority registration, access to Braille text or readers, access to adaptive equipment/technology or interpreters, notetaking assistance, test-taking assistance/accommodations, and many other services.
